LES EXCLUSIVES – Masterclass de novembre

Avec Hilde Ingeborg Sandvold, interprète de Navy Blue de Oona Doherty (à la MC2 le 22.11 et 23.11)

Formée à la Danish National School of Performing Arts, Hilde Ingeborg Sandvold a collaboré avec de nombreux·ses chorégraphes dont Tina Tarpgaard, Ted Stoffer, David Zambrano, Wim Vandekeybus/Ultima Vez, Martin Forsberg, Hofesh Shechter, Andreas Constantinou. Elle développe également son propre travail chorégraphique. Hilde Ingeborg Sandvold partagera les matériaux et les partitions de Navy Blue, dernière création d’Oona Doherty, pour se plonger pleinement dans cet univers intense et engagé.

Masterclass autour de Navy Blue

« The workshop will focus on the process and material of Navy Blue by Oona Doherty, given through the perspective of Hilde Ingeborg Sandvold – freelance dance-artist in the cast of Navy Blue.

We will start with some of what I call «drills for skills» – basic work that gets you warm and checks balance, mobility and coordination through practical exercises and simple floor-work in short phrases. In this part I will draw on my knowledge from physiotherapists that have helped me reduce, heal and avoid injury, different martial arts (specifically; Jiu-jitsu, Taekwondo and Wing Tsuen) that have given me a practical way to enter virtuous and complex physical material, and choreographers such as David Zambrano who taught me how to go in and out of the floor.

When we’re warm, we will learn some set material, and lastly, an improvised score, both from Navy Blue.

My experience in Oona’s work is that it requires an honest attempt of living with the materials you perform. You have to find ways of feeling and experiencing while doing, and ways of making your experience readable to the outside eye. It is an emotional process that we attack as professional performers – looking for ways to utilize personal experience and emotion with clarity.

In the workshop, we will work with materials that give us a chance to practice physical ability, while also clarifying tools for how to be with the materials – to perform, with an emotional presence.

The set material has elements from classical ballet, while the improvised score can be interpreted through any type of dance training. »
